Frequently Asked Questions
What is the IB Chemistry Formula Booklet?
The International Baccalaureate (IB) has released an official Data Booklet (also referred to as a ‘Formula Booklet’) for students studying the IB Chemistry courses (SL and HL). The booklet contains important constants, data, and formulae taught in the Chemistry SL & HL syllabi. The Chemistry SL / HL Formula Booklet includes the constants and formulae in the IB Chem course. For convenient access to the equations, the Chemistry SL / HL Formula Booklet published by Revision Village is available for every question, but students are encouraged to use the official IB Chemistry Data Booklet for important data as well.
Are there different Data Booklets for Chemistry SL & HL?
No – there is only one. The IB Chemistry Data Booklet contains important constants and formulae from each topic in the IB Chemistry syllabus, separated by topic and option. Standard Level Chemistry students will need only the SL Chemistry topics, but all students have access to both SL and HL sections of the data booklet.
How should I use the Chemistry Data Booklet?
The Chemistry Data Booklet is useful for three reasons: 1) to find important constants and data when solving questions, 2) to easily refer to the provided formulae when solving questions, and 3) to get a high level view of the full scope of the Chemistry SL & HL courses. It is recommended that students have the Chemistry SL/HL Data Booklet with them whenever revising Chemistry theory or practicing exam questions. By doing this, students will become familiar with the formulae available to them, and also understand the scope of their course; the concepts involved, how concepts are categorised in topics and how they are interlinked with other concepts in the course.
Can the Chemistry Data Booklet be used in examinations?
Students are permitted access to the official IB Chemistry Data Booklet in IB examinations. Please note: the Chemistry SL / HL Formula Booklet published by Revision Village is not the official IB Data Booklet. Revision Village has made life easier for Chemistry students by consolidating all of the formulae in the official IB Chemistry Data Booklet (13 pages) onto one page, for easy reference and to gain a high level view of the entire Chemistry course. This Revision Village condensed version of the Chemistry Formula Booklet is not permitted in the final IB exams.
